SQUAD STARS

STAGE 4 DANCE JOURNEY

Image

Does your highschooler need a stress relief?

Could they do with something that challenges them creatively and gives them an outlet away from the study desk?

I totally get it. Highschool years can be stressful and so often students bury themselves deep with school work, to the point where they practically burn out before it even gets to the HSC years.

I know you and I know you would prefer for them to be balancing it out with an activity that they love and will allow them to get the social and creative kick that they need to stay relaxed.

You're not alone.

Trust me. I hear this all the time.

So, I decided to devise a senior dance curriculum that I know they will adore and will actually help them get more done with a clear & focused mind.

A curriculum that I promise, will:

💎

Ignite confidence

and have them smiling and building awesome friendships

💎

Allow them to express themselves creatively and relieve stress

💎

Support their gross motor skill development and will be exercise they love!

💎

Introduce them to more complex patterns & choreography

"She hasn’t done dance since she was small, so it’s been a lovely re-introduction to a friendly class and lots of fun and confidence building skills.- Jacqui, mum at Jigsaw

INTRODUCING OUR
SQUAD STAR CURRICULUM

Focused on continually improving and perfecting technique; these classes introduce more advanced movement and dance technique, while still running in the same fun and nurturing environment.

We utilise goal setting exercises, obstacle courses and partner work to allow students to extend themselves and gain a greater knowledge in the art of dance as well as encourage their own creative thinking.

JAZZ: Modern and upbeat, this class is full of fun and laughs and is a great way to stay active
while also making new friends. In this age level, students learn more advanced combinations
and start to develop their own composition techniques.

BALLET: Ballet forms the basis of all dance techniques and has a large focus on body
placement, posture and performance quality. Although classes are run in a fun and nurturing
environment and students do not sit for exams, the classes are still taught from a set syllabus
allowing students to learn the correct technique and terminology.

HIP HOP/JFH: These classes focus on introducing students to modern and urban style dance technique, whilst also focusing on accented movement, isolations and cool tricks.

CONTEMPORARY: This style explores the abstract art of dance, drawing from numerous
genres, whilst focusing largely on expression and story telling. This class incorporates
strength, stretching, improvisation and floor work as well as breathing techniques.

LYRICAL BALLET: In this class, dancers will touch on basic ballet technique where there is a focus on posture, strength and control as well as introducing dancers to the beautiful style of Lyrical. Through the lyrical training, they will gain an understanding of Contemporary movement, self-expression and improvisation.

Programs that are thoughtfully planned out, combined with nurturing and gentle teachers who understand different personality types and needs; is what builds trust and connection within the classroom.

WHEN THERE IS TRUST AND CONNECTION

Your child will feel safe enough to engage and interact with their teacher and peers.

When this happens, you will see the shift, as they feel empowered to have a passion and to work hard to improve as a dancer and as a person

YOUR CHILD WILL SIMPLY LOVE:

Getting the opportunity to learn complex and skilful routines that often feature as opening and closing numbers at the concert, as well as the chance to perform in our Mini Stars Concerts

Setting goals in their dance diary and working together as a team to kick those goals! We utilise partner work and obstacle courses to make things like strength and stretch training; fun and exciting!

Our WOW weeks which are designed to add more joy into their lessons... Special reward weeks, parent week, love week, colourful dress up, concert prep week... You name it! We have something special planned for each term - their happiness is our priority

Having the opportunity to join our Future Gems Leadership Program and subsequently becoming part of the Jigsaw SRC team - be mentored by a senior teacher as you learn what it takes to be a great dance teacher and get practical experience within the classroom

Making new dance besties that support them and lift them up and will equally love the connection they build with their teacher - we do extra special fun things in class for our seniors!

Our focus on empowering them to dream, have a passion and believe in themselves. We are with them every step of the way and LOVE surprising them with their midyear progress report and certificate as well as their gorgeous trophy at our end of year concert.

The extra holiday events that they get the opportunity to run alongside Miss Tash. Being buddies to our younger students is a pretty cool job!

YOU WILL SIMPLY LOVE:

The flexibility and empathy that we offer - we run the studio from the perspective of a busy, everyday parent and know that sometimes things come up and you need to change class or miss a day - that's cool with us!

The regular, organised communication and transparency - we like to give you information up front so you have ample time to plan and know what to expect from the get go. We also think it's important to keep you informed about your child's progress.

That we run our studio on set core values and believe in providing a happy, fun and exciting place to visit. We are happy to answer questions, we won't yell at your kids and we strive to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you.

The stress-free and relaxed concerts that we put on for your dancer's - no sewing, no tricky hair changes, no pressure on your kids and no need for extra days of rehearsals and technical runs (one day is enough!)

2020 PROGRAM

Bronze & Silver Squad - Year 7 - 10 at school

We will be able to guide you as to which class would be perfect for your child. Students are not placed in

classes based primarily on their age, but experience, ability and friends are important factors that can

determine what class is best suited for them.

Our teachers are trained in nurturing each individual child's personality type, ability and overall class dynamics.

CLASS TIMES

For your convenience we run all of our classes for this age group on one day so they can focus their other days on school work. Bronze classes run on a Friday at our Wahroonga studio and Silver classes run on a Thursday at Hornsby.

CLASS UNIFORM

Just like at school, we have a set uniform in place to promote a sense of belonging, team spirit and allow teachers to correct dancers accurately. We have various options available to suit each style of dance and each students dress preferences. These can all be purchased via the studio, with shoes being the only item needing to be sourced externally.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON YOUR 1ST LESSON

When you arrive, we will greet your squad star and get down to know them individually so we can build a connection with them. After many years of experience, we are able to quickly identify each individual child's personality type and will generally be able to assess what they need in that moment of time.

For some, they may feel more comfortable watching for a little bit, just so they can get familiar with their surroundings. For others, it may be that they are bursting with energy and ready to get started right away. Both are completely okay and we will never force them to join in before they are ready.

Throughout the lesson, we will make your child feel really welcome and will pair them up with a dance buddy, we think they will connect with. We always like to make them feel super special and will often be seen complicating each and every dancer. Don't worry if it is their first time - we don't expect them to know the steps yet and will go over everything slowly or teach a brand new combo, so they are never at a disadvantage if they have started later in the year.

Depending on the child, we will usually suggest that parents wait with the other parents outside the room, not only so they can get to know their new dance friends but also so the child can experience the class without getting distracted and so we can see how they respond.

At the end of the class, we will gift your child a special present to say thank you for coming along and will provide you with some more information on how to enrol. Over the week we will be in touch, just to answer any questions you may have and provide feedback about their trial.
